English

Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, this research was conducted using the Grounded Theory method. Purposive sampling was employed, guided by the principle of theoretical saturation, resulting in semi-structured interviews with 24 key informants to identify the framework of the safeguarding model. Data collection instruments included semi-structured interviews (supplemented by focus groups) and document analysis. The coding analysis identified four causal conditions: the attention economy and commercialization of athletic conflict, power asymmetry in narrative production and dissemination, algorithmic accountability deficits, and digital surveillance gaps. Contextual factors emerged as the legal fragility of athlete protection, the informal ecosystem of sports media, emotional fandom and social polarization, and the psychological and communicative vulnerabilities of elite athletes. Intervening conditions were identified as digital literacy and media ethics, alongside the institutional capacity of sports organizations and clubs. Based on these findings, the core strategy identified is smart, ethical, and participatory safeguarding. The consequences of implementing this model include the restoration of symbolic capital and public trust in sports, the empowerment and resilience of athletes, and the establishment of ethical and digital governance in sports. Ultimately, this research demonstrates that algorithmic news hijacking and digital misconduct pose significant threats to the dignity, privacy, and mental health of elite athletes. Effectively addressing this phenomenon requires the implementation of a smart and ethical safeguarding system, digital literacy training, robust legal and psychological support, and active collaboration among sports governing bodies, media outlets, and digital platforms.
